Intense Tropical Cyclone Marlene 1994–95 South-West Indian Ocean cyclone season








the final storm of season formed on march 29 itcz east of diego garcia. large area of convection became more organized, intensifying tropical storm marlene on march 30. on date, jtwc classified tropical cyclone 19s. marlene continued strengthen moved west-southwestward, aided surge in monsoon. eye formed on march 31, , on next day storm became tropical cyclone. eye reached diameter of 25 km (15 mi), embedded within well-defined central dense overcast. later on april 1, marlene became intense tropical cyclone, 3 days after genesis. day, turned south due passing trough. less favorable conditions caused marlene weaken on april 2, although re-intensified next day. mfr estimated peak winds of 185 km/h (115 mph), , jtwc estimated winds of 230 km/h (145 mph). trough turned south later caused cyclone weaken , eye dissipate. on april 5, marlene downgraded severe tropical storm , subsequently drifted northwest, influenced ridge behind trough. 2 days later, storm turned southeast , later east, gradually weakening tropical depression. on april 11, passing trough absorbed marlene in eastern periphery of basin.
