ramsay macdonald received elementary education @ free church of scotland school in lossiemouth 1872 1875, , @ drainie parish school. left school @ end of summer term in 1881, @ age of 15, , began work on nearby farm. in december 1881, appointed pupil teacher @ drainie parish school. in 1885, left take position assistant mordaunt crofton, clergyman in bristol attempting establish boys , young men s guild @ st stephen s church. in bristol ramsay macdonald joined democratic federation, radical organization. federation changed name few months later social democratic federation (sdf). remained in group when left sdf become bristol socialist society. in 1886 moved london.
