pm36-2 beautiful helene in poznań


the pkp class pm36 consisted of 2 experimental polish prototype express locomotives, built fablok of chrzanów in 1937. 1 of them, no. pm36-1, streamlined, while other had standard appearance in order compare respective performances in terms of top speed, acceleration , coal , water consumption.


the pm36-1 won gold medal @ international exposition of modern art , technology in paris in 1937. damaged , later scrapped during second world war, pm36-2 survived , worked on pkp until 1965, when given warsaw railway museum. in 1995, rebuilt , restored mainline specifications , nicknamed beautiful helene. of 2011, while still remaining museum property, locomotive in regular service @ wolsztyn.


besides these 2 polish-built locomotives, several german drg class 03, class 03 , class 18 locomotives (ex württemberg class c) , austrian class 629 tank locomotives saw service in poland classes pm2, pm3, om101 , okm11 respectively. (also see germany) , (austria)


one 600 mm (1 ft 11 ⁄8 in) narrow gauge pacific locomotive, belgijka, built in 1935 ateliers métallurgiques in nivelles , tubize in belgium, used in poland , preserved @ narrow gauge railway museum in wenecja, poland.
