on 11 january 2013, hollande authorised execution of operation serval, aimed curtail activities of islamist extremists in north of mali. intervention popularly supported in mali, hollande promised government rebuild mali . during one-day visit bamako, mali s capital, on 2 february 2013, said important day in [his] political life . in 2014, hollande took of these troops out of mali , spread them on rest of sahel under operation barkhane, in effort curb jihadist militants.
