newberry college has hosted annual south carolina science olympiad competition 32 years in row, dating 1985. competition has been dominated clinton high school , bell street middle school, clinton middle school. tournament has produced national champions on 6 occasions: irmo middle school 3 times, , irmo high school 3 times.
