prologue

a cornfield, profile of mombi s hut @ right, in purple-tinted farm landscape filled pumpkins.

tip exits mombi s hut, dragging wooden form of man behind him, props him on central shock of corn, , begins carving face upon it. (he unfamiliar jack o lanterns , not open or empty pumpkin, came idea himself.) when realizes mombi coming, hides behind large shock of corn. mombi @ first frightened, tip intended, decides test box of powder of life. pumpkinhead comes life, , harvest sprites bow him, , while mombi dances glee powder works, tip takes pumpkinhead hand , leads him away.

act i
scene 1

interior of country school house

the schoolchildren enter classroom of professor knowitt , introductory exercises , school song, native fairyland . professor finds woggle-bug on floor , children want see him. magic magnifying glass, professor projects woggle-bug onto screen, steps down , introduces himself mr. h.m. woggle-bug t.e. professor knowitt frightened , tries him go on screen. woggle-bug tries impress professor knowledge, delivers such malapropisms patties patois, following each pun.

mombi enters , inquires if @ school has seen tip. woggle-bug says no. mistakes him masquerader, introduces himself , says @ service. asks him help, telling him tip has run away pumpkinhead, mistakes romance. tells him have stolen powder of life, worth million dollars ounce, because can bring touches life. woggle-bug suggests trying on democratic party. professor insists woggle-bug property prevent him go, , woggle-bug retorts if held after school parents bite professor.

act ii
scene 1

courtyard of royal palace of princess ozma

jinjur sits on throne feet stretched out on stool. servants pass chewing gum soldiers play games. when fight breaks out among girls, orders them stop fighting, , put away games if cannot play them without fighting. women sing chewing gum song, victors belong spoils . jinjur scolds prissy hooking uniform back, calling turncoat. prissy realizes can t remember house has chosen own , sings ll place . prissy complains tried bathe in champagne advised ella wheeler wilcox, sawhorse pulled plug , had bathe in mineral water instead. jinjur gives prissy medal, orders soldiers clean games. men enter sweeping, dusting, , wheeling baby carts , sing household brigade .

act iii

maetta sorceress seated on throne. talisman tells strangers have arrived. has favorite page, athlos, admit them. tip kneels before maetta, pleading restored true form. after tip reiterates plot, maetta has athlos send fairies bring jinjur, mombi, prissy, , knowitt palace. maetta asks others want her, , jack says wants way preserve head, , woggle-bug, dress. sawhorse chases regent maetta s palace. regent says escaped jinjur aboard sawhorse, tried kick brains out suggesting teach him simple life. explains have jinjur mrs. spud, not himself mr. jinjur.

maetta s attendants bring in prisoners, jinjur dressed milkmaid , prissy wearing checked skirt , coat covered in medals. maetta orders athlos cast mombi dungeon, latter spewing insults @ others drag away. when maetta takes away jinjur punishment, jack wishes had sawhorses, , woggle-bug works magic, summoning 6 sawhorses number, equine paradox (tip, woggle-bug, jack, regent, prissy, professor).
