the original crater thought have been formed impact of asteroid or comet approximately 142.5 ± 0.8 million years ago, in earliest cretaceous, close jurassic - cretaceous boundary. original crater rim has been estimated @ 22 km (14 mi) in diameter, has been eroded away. 5 km (3.1 mi) diameter, 180 m (590 ft) high crater-like feature, exposed, interpreted eroded relic of crater s central uplift. impact origin of topographic feature first proposed in 1960s, strongest evidence coming abundance of shatter cones. in past crater has been target of petroleum exploration, , 2 abandoned exploration wells lie near centre.
