kokuro , national railway locomotive engineers union (zendoro), both prominent japanese railway unions, represented number of jnr workers. there government pledge no 1 thrown out onto street , unhired workers classified needing employed , transferred jnr settlement corporation, assigned 3 years.
around 7,600 workers transferred in way, , around 2,000 of them hired jr firms, , 3,000 found work elsewhere. mitomu yamaguchi, former jnr employee tosu in saga prefecture had been transferred jnr settlement corporation, later stated in finding work consisted of giving him photocopies of recruitment ads newspapers.
this period ended in april 1990, , 1,047 dismissed. included 64 zendoro members , 966 kokuro members.
settlement
many lawsuits , labor commission cases filed on decades privatization in 1987. 23 years after original privatization, on june 28, 2010, supreme court settled dispute between workers , japan railway construction, transport , technology agency, successor body jnr settlement corporation. agency said pay 20 billion yen, approximately 22 million yen per worker, 904 plaintiffs. however, workers not reinstated, not full settlement.
