reverse-transcription-pcr (rt-pcr) commonly used detection tool sapovirus because of broad reactivity, sensitivity, speed, , specificity. because of diversity of sapovirus, hundreds of primers have been disigened in order target , amplify rna-dependent rna- polymerase. can used partially characterize sapovirus , investigate similarity of detected sapovirus.

sapoviruses morphologically distinguishable other gastroenteritis pathogens (e.g., norovirus, rotavirus, astrovirus, or adenovirus) typical “star of david” surface morphology under electron microscope. however, has low sensitivity compared nucleic acid detection methods.


antigen detection methods

enzyme-linked immunosorbant assays (elisa) have been used detect human sapovirus clinical samples. while elisa can used detect human sapovirus antigens, not commonly used. diversity of many strains of sapovirus make difficult detect wide array of antigens may present- because there many antigens possible, elisa not accurate or sensitive nucleic acid detection methods.
