as result of agreement, starting 1994, when travelling uk france eurotunnel (road vehicle trains), french immigration , customs checks both take place before departure cheriton, rather on arrival in france. when travelling france uk eurotunnel, travellers have clear both french exit checks , uk immigration , customs checks in coquelles before boarding train.

unlike juxtaposed controls eurostar , ferry consist of immigration pre-embarkation checks, juxtaposed controls eurotunnel consist of both immigration , customs pre-embarkation checks.

in 2002–2003, @ uk immigration checkpoint @ coquelles in france, 2232 people refused entry uk.

eurostar

as result of agreements, when travelling uk belgium or france eurostar, immigration entry checks schengen area take place before boarding train in uk, rather on arrival in belgium or france. immigration entry checks carried out in uk stations before embarkation french border police (which carries out immigration entry checks on behalf of belgian federal police passengers travelling belgium). when travelling belgium or france uk eurostar (except on lines marseille , marne la vallée-chessy, see below), passengers clear immigration exit checks schengen area, uk immigration entry checks, before boarding train.

customs checks on eurostar passengers remain unaffected agreements, , continue take place upon arrival after leaving train.

between 2002 , 2003, 2442 passengers refused entry uk @ uk immigration checkpoints in paris gare du nord , lille europe stations on basis had inadequate documentation. @ gare de calais-fréthun, 56 passengers refused entry uk @ uk immigration checkpoint there.

northbound passengers on marseille line disembark luggage in lille, go through passport , security checks , re-board train, marseille saint-charles, avignon tgv , lyon part-dieu not have space or resources set immigration posts there (although previous service avignon centre did have them).
