Limitations OpenAL







the single listener model in openal tailored single human user , not fit artificial intelligence or robotic simulations or multiple human participants in collaborative musical performances.


in these cases multiple listener model required. openal fails take account sound propagation delays (the speed of sound used doppler effect only). distance sound source translates amplitude effect (attenuation) , not delay. hence openal cannot used time difference of arrival calculations unless functionality added in separately.
