the popularity of greyhound racing started decline in 1960s. both , poor investment decisions gra left company £20 million in debt 1975. in spite of this, company talking major investment in harringay late 1970. however, had been in talks leading supermarket chain sale of land 1967. in event stadium received little investment , result became dilapidated.


in line property disinvestment strategy, gra sold harringay site in 1985 sainsbury s £10.5 million. 2 years later, on 27 september 1987, stadium closed down. site cleared , in place sainsbury s store , new housing built . remaining trace of stadium small area of open land south , east of sainsbury s car park, called harringay stadium slopes.
