paul , taeko after marriage in 1938


on september 8, 1938, tatsuguchi graduated doctor of medicine , awarded california medical license. same year, accepted position @ tokyo adventist sanitarium, institution founded in part father in 1928. working tuberculosis patients in tokyo, tatsuguchi spent several more months undergoing postgraduate medical studies in california. in 1938, tatsuguchi married childhood friend, taeko miyake. taeko s parents serving adventist missionaries in honolulu, hawaii, while taeko pursued studies in california. paul , taeko departed u.s. japan in 1939.
