early career

dowsett began career @ maldon , district cycling club in city of chelmsford. recognised talent, , alex became part of british olympic academy development team. won under-23 version of british time trial championships in 2008 , 2009. in 2010, rode american trek-livestrong , won under-23 european time trial championship. won silver medal in time trial @ 2010 commonwealth games.

team sky (2011–12)

dowsett signed british-based team sky neo-pro 2011 season. first victory sky came in london nocturne event. dowsett finished fifth overall in danmark rundt, helping teammate simon gerrans overall victory. won fifth stage of tour du poitou-charentes finish second overall. in september, became british national time trial champion. dowsett won time trial stage 8a of 2011 tour of britain.

in march 2012, dowsett suffered broken elbow in 3 days of de panne , result missed classics season. dowsett recovered finish second in national road race championships, , later retained national time trial champion title. later in september, dowsett competed @ uci world road race championships in 3 men s elite events, best placing of eighth in individual time trial

movistar (2013–present)

on 30 october 2012, dowsett signed spanish movistar team 2013 season hoping gain ride on grand tour. after competing in classics season movistar team, dowsett selected ride giro d italia, first grand tour appearance. dowsett helped movistar team take second place in team time trial on stage two. on stage eight, 54.8 km (34.1 mi) individual time trial, dowsett set fastest time record biggest career victory date, setting time ten seconds faster second placed bradley wiggins. in june, dowsett won british national time trial championships third year in row despite crashing on in course.

in may 2014 dowsett set new british 10-mile time trial record in cambridgeshire, clocking in @ 17 minutes 20 seconds , beating michael hutchinson s previous record 25 seconds.

competing england @ 2014 commonwealth games, dowsett won gold in individual time trial. after long breakaway, dowsett took lead of tour of britain on sixth stage lost before end of stage race dylan van baarle , finished eighth overall. team announced dowsett had signed three-year contract extension them in september.

in december 2014, dowsett announced attempt break uci hour record @ lee valley velopark on 27 february 2015. however, forced postpone attempt after breaking collarbone in training accident. attempt instead took place @ manchester velodrome on 2 may 2015 dowsett set new world record of 52.937 kilometres, beating rohan dennis previous record half kilometre. 2 weeks later, dowsett won first ever stage race, 2015 bayern-rundfahrt, claimed overall victory day after winning stage 4 individual time-trial. in june 2015 dowsett clinched fourth national time trial title.
