yulius fuchik , sister ship operated interlighter, company founded in may 1978 governments of bulgaria, hungary, soviet union , czechoslovakia sole purpose of transporting lighters without transshipment between countries along danube river , countries in south , south-east asia. transportation service offered under brand danube-sea line . barges carried yulius fuchik loaded in various ports along danube river , pushed downstream sulina, romania, loaded in ship. transported mekong delta, voyage took around 18 days, , pushed upstream far phnom penh, cambodia, unloading. occasionally, lighters carried karachi, pakistan; bombay, india; , penang, malaysia. service continued until 1990s, when demand lighters dropped , ships laid up.
the subsequent career of finnish-built barge carriers unclear. both yulius fuchik , tibor szamueli sold in late 1990s , renamed production driller , development driller respectively. despite names, uncertain if ships ever converted or otherwise used offshore drilling. after alleged plans using barge carriers transport rolling stock united states latin america fell through, ships laid in piraeus, greece.
the ships changed hands again in 2002. production driller renamed asian alliance , development driller became asian reliance. unknown if specialized barge carriers, close end of economic life, used transporting cargo. both ships sold scrap in 2003 in eleusis, greece. asian alliance renamed alliance , broken in alang, india, while asian reliance rechristened reliance , c reliance, , scrapped on gadani beach, pakistan.
