the boundary channel of potomac river separates columbia island virginia shoreline, while main stream of potomac surrounds island on other 3 sides. of 2007, island consisted of 121 acres (490,000 m) of landscaped parkland. located within park lyndon b. johnson memorial grove, navy–merchant marine memorial, , columbia island marina.


columbia island accessible downtown washington via arlington memorial bridge, arlington national cemetery via memorial drive, , northern virginia via george washington memorial parkway. mount vernon trail runs along side of island facing rest of district, leading theodore roosevelt island in 1 direction , ronald reagan washington national airport on other. pentagon visible western side of island near marina @ southern tip.
