the temple of amun (akoris)
the site settled since old kingdom. important administrative town in 17th upper-egyptian nome in ancient egyptian times. maybe nile port belonged town. lot of tombs created in rocks. belonged officials of old kingdom , priests of late period.
archaeological remains came new kingdom , earlier times. in new kingdom temple of amun established in former old kingdom tomb ramesses ii , enlarged ramesses iii. assumed fortress established @ site in persian times because of strategic location of town no part of fortress remains.
akoris became important town during greek , roman periods, , name changed akoris. today’s settlement traces came roman , coptic times.
