a mob went on rampage on nights of may 31 june 2 burning market area of jaffna, office of tamil newspaper, home of member of parliament jaffna, jaffna public library , killing 4 people. destruction of jaffna public library incident appeared cause distress people of jaffna. 95,000 volumes of public library destroyed fire included numerous culturally important , irreplaceable manuscripts. witnesses reported presence of uniformed police officers in mob , involvement in deaths of 4 individuals.
