in late 2012, spl set investigation, chaired lord nimmo smith, alleged use of dual contracts rangers through ebt scheme. david murray denied cheating took place during ownership of rangers, while alistair johnston , charles green questioned independence of investigation. enquiry found rangers had deliberately failed disclose trust payments in order withhold information hmrc , fined old company £250,000. had been anticipated investigation revoke honours won rangers during period between 2001 , 2009 when trust payments made (three league titles, 4 scottish cups , 4 league cups), not done because considered rangers had not obtained sporting advantage withholding information.

craig whyte

in 2013, ticketus sued craig whyte damages. in september 2014, banned being company director 15 years. whyte declared bankrupt @ high court in london in october 2015, following non-payment of damages awarded ticketus.


a warrant issued on 14 november 2014 crown office whyte s arrest in connection alleged fraud carried out during purchase of rangers. 4 arrests made in england part of investigation. on 27 november, whyte detained police in mexico , held due warrant. on 28 november appeared @ glasgow sheriff court; no plea or declaration made , released on bail.


on 2 september 2015 whyte appeared @ glasgow sheriff court along charles green; whyte charged conspiracy charge under criminal justice , licensing (scotland) act 2010 section 28(1). on 6 june 2017, after lengthy trial @ glasgow high court (with donald findlay acting defence attorney), whyte acquitted of charges.


wee tax case

in 2016 group of celtic ordinary shareholders canvassed both club , uefa investigate 2011 decision award rangers licence play in champions league (the place otherwise have passed celtic) despite presence of wee tax case ; dispute referred resolution 12 (referring relevant uefa statute). uefa confirmed take no action status of tax case not confirmed @ time of licence being awarded, , start of following season rangers withdrawn european competitions due other factors. in september 2017, sfa stated may obligated matter again after court trial of craig whyte, during alleged directors knew held liable tax amount when uefa licence granted.
