the election marked record of 287 candidates. 67 lists total of 216 candidates contested 35 geographical constituencies, while 53 candidates contested in traditional functional constituencies, in 16 of them returned legco uncontested.
the largest pro-democracy party, democratic party, suffered largest defeat since creation in 1994, while radical democrats league of social democrats , newly formed people power doubled votes. despite addition of 5 new geographical constituency seats, pan-democrats won 1 seat fewer in 2008 poll; infighting within camp blamed.audrey eu , tanya chan, incumbent civic party legislators, placed second on lists in hong kong island , new territories west both received on 70,000 votes, far more other lists, still not re-elected. the beijing-loyalist democratic alliance betterment , progress of hong kong remained largest party, winning 13 seats in total. lists in geographical constituencies elected split candidates several lists avoid wasting votes under largest remainder method. christopher chung revealed dab, of member, had secretly engaged in illegally allocating votes ftu based on results of party s own exit polling results; said both , jasper tsang switched on campaigning wong kwok-hing of ftu @ around 6 pm, after dab had reached quota of vote.

leung s supporters took several seats in functional constituencies. pro-leung lo wai-kwok defeated incumbent raymond ho chung-tai nominated henry tang in ce election , pro-democrat albert lai in engineering sector. in tourism, architectural, surveying , planning , sports, performing arts, culture , publication constituencies, yiu si-wing, tony tse wai-chuen , ma fung-kwok elected. leung s backers ng leung-sing , martin liao cheung-kong won seats unopposed finance , commercial (second) functional constituencies respectively.
the acting president of hong kong professional teachers union ip kin-yuen , civic party dennis kwok retained seats in traditionally pro-democracy education , legal sectors. cheung kwok-che of labour party , nonpartisan joseph lee kok-long secured seats in social welfare , health services constituencies. in addition, pan democrats gained 2 more seats in information technology , accountancy newcomers charles mok , kenneth leung.
the pan-democrats won 3 out of 5 seats in new district council (second) functional constituency albert ho , james democratic party , frederick fung association democracy , people s livelihood. beijing loyalists won 2 seats chan yuen-han of hong kong federation of trade unions (ftu) , starry lee of democratic alliance betterment of hong kong (dab) each got 1 seat. veteran lau kong-wah became dab candidate placed first on candidate list lost in election (see 2012 hong kong legislative election in district council).
