during world war 1 skitalets served medical orderly, , published several works condemning war. welcomed , supported 1917 revolution. lived abroad 1922 1934 in harbin china worked several newspapers, , contributed works soviet journals. spent time in australia on assignment. returned russia in july, 1934, renewed friendship gorky , again took part in literary , social life. published novels house of chernovs in 1935 , fetters in 1940. died in moscow in 1941, , buried in vvedenskoye cemetery.
