History Memorial High School (Hedwig Village, Texas)

memorial senior high school opened in 1962 relieve overcrowding @ spring branch high school. memorial second high school open in sbisd. @ time, students living north of old katy road attended spring branch , students living south of old katy road attended memorial. arrangement lasted until spring woods high school opened in 1964.

the design of school classic 1960s in south, large, open campus. each classroom building opened outside breezeway, maximize air flow school did not have air conditioning.

when memorial first opened, area surrounding school largely forest , rice fields, rapidly grew new subdivisions built, , mid-1960s, memorial s enrollment exceeded 3,000 students, number larger school meant hold. problem resolved opening of westchester senior high school in 1967, , later stratford senior high school in 1974.

at time, memorial s main rivals spring branch bears , westchester wildcats. however, mid-1980s, enrollment of every school across district had dropped precariously, , decided westchester , spring branch high schools closed. memorial remained open, , took in students both westchester , spring branch high schools.

today, memorial oldest high school still operating in spring branch isd. school has received extensive renovations, began during 1996–1997 school year. every building in school gutted , refurbished, outdated facilities replaced , campus made more secure.

in 2011, memorial high school named #10 posh public school in country, pulls wealthy area of houston.

in january 2017 vandal sprayed graffiti of racist character on school property.
