at present, serer population estimated on 1.8 million based on population figures senegal, gambia , mauritania (2011) – excluding serers living in west , elsewhere. more numerous in senegal in gambia , mauritania. though traditionally mixed-farmers, boat builders , land owners, serers found in major professions including politics, medicine, literature, commerce, law, agriculture, etc. polyculture , boat building still practiced serers. due lamanic land inheritance system, tend have valuable land. however, president abdoulaye wade s land reform law has affected many serer farming communities in senegal , ve lost properties.
