general appearance

rectangular, proportioned, giving impression of great strength , stamina. tricoloured.

characteristics

handsome, upstanding dog of striking colouring. hardy , sound.

head , skull

head longish, rectangular, arched , moderately broad skull. occiput not prominent. stop defined not on pronounced. jowls not heavy. muzzle long, large , rectangular. bridge of nose straight , parallel line of skull. nose black, developed large nostrils. upper lips full not overhanging.

eyes

clear , dark brown tranquil expression.

ears

set high, when drawn alongside jaw, ears extend approximately halfway along muzzle , should raised above skull when responding call. soft straight fall , fore edge not folded out.

mouth

jaws strong, perfect, regular , complete scissor bite, i.e. upper teeth closely overlapping lower teeth , set square jaws.

neck

long , powerful, merging shoulders, skin on neck supple , close fitting.

forequarters

shoulders muscular , laid back. when viewed front forelegs appear straight , parallel. upper foreleg long , broad , set @ right angle shoulder blade. elbows set close in body.

body

back straight , powerful. strong, broad, muscular loin. croup inclined. chest deep, ribs moderately sprung, ribs proportionately long. belly tucked up.

hindquarters

strong , parallel when viewed behind. angulated, muscle developed , broad when seen side.

feet

short , hard. pads firm , pointing straight forward.

tail

set on low, in straight continuation of line of back. in length reaches hock. wide @ base , narrowing off towards tip. held in straight position or curving in sabre-like shape. not carried above backline when moving.

coat

coat consists of 2 layers. undercoat short, close , soft, thick during winter. upper coat weather-resistant lying close body. on underside of tail, ordinary hair quite long not forming fringe. ample hair between pads.

colour

upper side of neck, back, sides of trunk , upper side of tail black. head , legs, side of neck, trunk , tail brown. white markings follows: blaze on upper part of muzzle, underside of neck, breast , tip of tail, lower legs , feet.

a mixture of black , brown undesirable, preponderance of of 3 permissible colours.
