conventions in uncontested auction
jump shift

strong, semi−solid suit, slam interest


fourth suit

invites game after initial one-over-one response. responder may pass in subsequent bidding opener may not. fourth suit forces game after two-over-one response.


third suit

if opener raises third suit, promises 4 cards in suit , denies stopper in unbid suit. 3nt bid opener shows 4 cards in third suit , promises stopper in unbid suit.


forcing 2nt

responder’s 2nt forcing after two-over-one response.


odwrotka

after 1♣ opening , response in major, 2♦ odwrotka (a fit reverse ), shows 18+ hand, fit, , asks responder describe hand. jassem recommends replacing wj2000 s odwrotka bubrotka responses above.


2♣ – check back

weak clubs or game invitational, or game forcing opener’s rebids:



2♦ = minimum opening, no 3-card support
2 in responder’s suit = minimum opening, 3-card support
2 in other major = nice opening, 3-card support
2nt = nice opening, no 3-card support

responder’s continuations: 3♣ signs off. 2 in bid major non-forcing (10–12 hcp). other bids (including 2nt) game forcing.


en passant

in uncontested auction, stoppers shown. in competition, bidding opponent’s suit asks stopper. if opponents bid 2 suits, bidding higher-level suit promises stopper in lower-level suit.
