jump shift – suit , support (fit showing jump)
new suit – forcing @ 1-level (except 1♦; see below), non-forcing @ 2-level
redouble = 10+ hcp

opener bids before responder: shows minimum if bid cheaper 2 in opening bid, shows extras otherwise.



1♦ response on opponent’s double – natural, not forcing
support bidding after partner’s 1♥/1♠ opening doubled:

1nt = 7–9(10) hcp; 3-card support
2nt = limit raise: 4-card support
jump shift shows suit , support.



over opponent’s overcall

new suit forcing @ level of 1 , 3. new suit not forcing @ level of 2.
jump raise pre-emptive.

support bidding after partner’s 1♥/1♠ opening overcalled

2nt promises support (usually 4 cards) , forces game. direct cue bid game-invitational, or game forcing flat distribution , defensive values.


after partner’s 1nt opening overcalled

double negative – part score range.
new suit non-forcing @ two-level, forcing @ three-level.
lebensohl: either gf 4 cards in other major or non-forcing unbid suit.

after partner’s 2♦/2♥/2♠ opening overcalled

new suit = pass or correct.
double penalties.

negative double

through 4♦ negative doubles include, apart standard agreements, forcing hands weak 5-card suit , – after 1♥/1♠ opening – invitational no-trump hands.


when second defender overcalls

support double. support double not show extras promises offensive values.
after 1♣ opening, double two-way: either support double or stronger variant of opening.
