Early history Light gun



the first light guns appeared in 1930s, following development of light-sensing vacuum tubes. not long before technology began appearing in arcade shooting games, beginning seeburg ray-o-lite in 1936. these light gun games, modern laser tag, used small targets (usually moving) onto light-sensing tube mounted; player used gun (usually rifle) emitted beam of light when trigger pulled. if beam struck target, hit scored.


these games evolved throughout subsequent decades, culminating in sega s periscope, company s first successful game released in 1966, required player target cardboard ships. periscope electro-mechanical game, , first arcade game cost quarter per play. sega s 1969 game missile featured electronic sound , moving film strip represent targets on projection screen, , 1972 game killer shark featured mounted light gun shot @ targets movement , reactions displayed using image projection onto screen. nintendo released beam gun in 1970 , laser clay shooting system in 1973, followed in 1974 arcade game wild gunman, used video projection display target on screen. in 1975, sega released co-operative light gun shooters balloon gun , bullet mark.
