dwelley born in mount vernon, washington on march 8, 1908 family of charles lemuel dwelley (1878–1964) , mary elizabeth muth dwelley (1877–1954). referred chuck distinguish him father. family had 2 other children, chuck s older sister dorothy (born in 1905) , chuck s younger brother william (born in 1916).


dwelley s father, charles lemuel, fourth child of joseph f. dwelley, 1 of first settlers of skagit county arrived in washington kittery, maine in 1870. shortly after chuck s birth, in 1910, family moved anacortes, washington chuck s father worked @ pulp mill until retirement. chuck graduated anacortes high school in 1925.


dwelley married 3 times. married first wife, helen lyle grubb of anacortes (born in 1910), on june 13, 1927. following dwelley s employment opportunities, couple first moved sedro-woolley, in 1929, concrete, washington work concrete herald. child, arthur art gilbert dwelley born on february 6, 1930. couple lived on top floor of building published newspaper of life until divorced in summer of 1961. helen moved mount vernon in july 1961 died in 1969.


dwelley remarried on january 1, 1962. second wife, alice may hurn born in 3 lakes, washington in 1913. widow 4 children, before moving concrete dwelley, treasurer in shepherd of hills lutheran church near 3 lakes in snohomish county, washington. alice died on may 6, 1967 @ age 54.


on march 16, 1968 dwelley remarried again. third wife, helen lenore pemberton (born on december 14, 1910) held journalism degree washington state university. worked @ internal publication general dynamics corporation , left job live dwelley in concrete. in 1990s, couple moved tenino, washington live dwelley s son, art. charles dwelley died on september 30, 1993. buried in pleasant ridge cemetery @ la conner, washington. helen moved california lived until died on november 18, 2011, @ 101 years old. buried next dwelley s grave in la conner.


all 3 of dwelley s wives assisted him in writing concrete herald, , son art followed father s trade. community activist; edited , published local newspaper, tenino independent, , later became local historian until death on october 10, 2000.
