chan appeared in reality television series survivor: fiji. finished fourth , last person voted out. appeared on jury @ end of season , voted earl cole win game , 1 million dollars.

an atypical survivor contestant, achieved success through knowledge , utilization of basic physics. evident first episode. after repeated efforts of more muscular contestants, 1 able open box of supplies tribe received. while others had used various brute force methods open box, chan dropped on corner onto rock, opening immediately. in way able beat younger, fitter , theoretically stronger players in challenges.

while not shown on series, chan instrumental in creation of fire using spectacles (something not possible concave lenses).

chan used smarts find hidden immunity idol. while cole kept tribe @ bay, chan found idol, shaped turtle. after, created false idol , planted found real idol. way, if found idol was, not suspect had in fact found it. constructed false idol out of half coconut shell , painted face on it. painted letters i.i., immunity idol.

chan part of 1 of largest controversies in survivor history. in challenge reward new truck (2008 ford super duty), chan won, , offered deal fellow player andria dreamz herd. chan give herd truck if, in exchange, herd promise give immunity chan @ final four, securing place chan in final three. deal contingent on both chan , herd being in final 4 , herd winning individual immunity @ stage of game.

herd accepted deal, , chan sent himself exile island, first in survivor history so. chan said in confessional during episode because fellow castaway cassandra franklin never survive, , there no 1 else send.

after 2 more people voted out, exact conditions of bargain set up, herd winning immunity in final four. however, herd reneged on deal , chan voted off. in reunion after finale, revealed members of jury chan might have won 6 out of 9 votes had made final three. has stated holds no grudge against herd did, risk took.

micronesia

on january 3, 2008, chan announced among favorites returning survivor: micronesia — fans vs. favorites, 16th season of survivor began airing on february 7, 2008. on first episode of show, formed loose alliance fellow favorites jonathan penner, ami cusack, , eliza orlins. chan joined rest of tribe in voting jonny fairplay off island during episode.

as aired in episode three, favorites lost immunity challenge , chan targeted survivor: panama favorite cirie fields, swing vote 2 alliances (the other consisting of amanda kimmel, ozzy lusth, parvati shallow , james clement). fields targeted him because of reputation intelligent player, , scared of happen if found hidden immunity idol again. despite penner s attempts persuade fields join alliance, chan eliminated , became third person voted off island vote of 6–2–1, despite effort target shallow.
