Biography Albert Wolff (journalist)










wolff graduated trade school after teaching in paris. followed degree in bonn before settled in paris in 1857. there worked secretary alexandre dumas. 1859 editor of le charivari under pseudonym charles brassac. moved le figaro became leading art critic , later promoted editor of newspaper. discussions of paris salon had great impact of success of contemporary artists. wolff supported academic painting, jean-louis-ernest meissonier 1 of favourite artists. intensively connected contemporary french artists, a. o. painters of barbizon school visited , interviewed frequently. in publication of 1886: notes upon masters of xix century wolff described french painters pictures exhibited on exhibition cent chefs-d oeuvres: choiche of french private galleries , in paris, 1883. wolff opposed impressionism, although praised individual works school. published detailed observations of paris in several books , wrote several novels , stage plays. politically, opposed antisemitism.


he buried in cimetière du père-lachaise (96th division).
