white , company saw combat 1864 through 1865. during summer of 1865 alone, white s company participated in 56 battles , skirmishes, including picket fights, 2 men killed, 26 men wounded (four of later died result of wounds), , ten men taken prisoner. october 1, 1864, white s company had 15 serviceable horses , 70 not serviceable. between 1863 , 1865, white received 1 severe wound (from june 21, 1864) , 2 minor wounds various campaigns. white felt effects of these wounds remainder of life. throughout military service during american civil war, white served under commands of stonewall jackson , jubal early.
following surrender of general robert e. lee on april 9, 1865, white , remaining part of company traveled north carolina join confederate army forces under command of general joseph e. johnston, johnston , forces had surrendered before white , troops reach them. white , remnants of company disbanded without surrendering or being paroled, , white returned romney around june 1, 1865.

white s father, hampshire county clerk of court john baker white, learned of advancement of union army forces on romney, , became concerned safety of county s records. father proceeded load land registration records ledger books onto wagons , had them transported winchester, virginia safekeeping. in 1863, when winchester no longer safe location storage of hampshire county s land records , again risked destruction union army forces, christian streit white took responsibility records , transferred them front royal. when front royal became endangered advancing union army forces, white had records moved luray caverns remained several months. in fall 1864, county s record books rescued white , company union army troops in process of destroying them. white s company loaded 150 record books wagon , taken north carolina remained safely duration of war. hampshire county s land records survived , returned courthouse following conclusion of american civil war, soldier returning area north carolina. had white s father john baker white not separated records , sent bound volumes away safekeeping, hampshire county have lost records during course of war, remained in courthouse destroyed.
