cartierville grew suburb when became in 1898 north terminus of montreal park , island railway tramway line, known 17-cartierville . named in honour of sir george-Étienne cartier, became village officially in 1906. during december 1912, achieved city status. 2 years later, rural , agricultural part of cartierville granted independence city , known ville de saraguay.


on 22 december 1916, provincial government ordered annexation of cartierville montreal. cartierville famous belmont park amusement park operated 1929 1980s.
