1st light horse regiment

this regiment recruited exclusively various new south wales militia regiments. squadron recruited 5th australian light horse (31 men) , 6th australian light horse (59 men). b squadron came 7th australian light horse (41 men) , 11th australian light horse (62 men). c squadron recruited 9th australian light horse (49 men). during course of war, territorial connection maintained regarding reinforcements.

2nd light horse regiment

this regiment recruited exclusively various queensland militia regiments. squadron recruited 2nd australian light horse (50 men); b squadron recruited 3rd australian light horse (34 men); , c squadron recruited 4th australian light horse (64 men) , 27th australian light horse (30 men).


3rd light horse regiment

this regiment composite formation recruited various militia regiments south australia providing 2 squadrons , tasmania 1 squadron. squadron recruited 23rd australian light horse regiment; b squadron recruited 24th australian light horse; c squadron recruited exclusively 26th australian light horse within tasmania.



71 pte w.h.r. woods, 1st lhr, died of wounds 15 may 1915.


1st light horse machine gun squadron

initially, each regiment within brigade raised own machine gun section consisted of 2 troops , 2 maxim machine guns. situation remained 1914 until in july 1916, when regimental machine gun sections excised , brigaded form machine gun squadron. 1st, 2nd , 3rd machine gun sections combined form 1st machine gun squadron under command of brigade. 1st light horse machine gun squadron armed 12 machine guns.


1st light horse signal troop

the 1st signal troop composed exclusively victorian militia 10th , 21st signal troops.


1st light horse field ambulance

the 1st light horse field ambulance formed 2 sections: section recruited in melbourne included 20 students richmond agricultural college; and, b section recruited in sydney , composed greater extent militia members 28th light horse field ambulance.


1st light horse brigade train

the 1st light horse brigade train recruited around brisbane , trained @ enoggera. after gallipoli, unit underwent name changes 1st supply section in february 1916 32nd australian army service corps company in february 1917.


6th mobile veterinary section

prior 1916, each regiment maintained own veterinary section, consisting of half troop. after formation of anzac mounted division in 1916, 3 individual regimental veterinary sections brigaded form 6th mobile veterinary section.


artillery

after formation of anzac mounted division in 1916, artillery support provided british batteries. first british battery attached brigade leicestershire battery of iii brigade, royal horse artillery (t.f.). battery remained until re-organisation of february 1918 when leicester battery replaced somerset battery of xviii brigade, royal horse artillery (t.f.).


1st light horse training regiment

the 1st light horse training regiment formed in egypt during march 1916, tasked training incoming reinforcements while allowing wounded , sick place recover before returning active service. training regiment contained 3 squadrons, each duplicating regiments within brigade whom supplied reinforcements. training regiment disbanded in july 1918 replaced anzac light horse training regiment when recruits no longer tied regiment placed in general pool of reinforcements called general service reinforcements.


1st light horse double squadron

the 1st light horse double squadron formed in egypt on 6 july 1916 1st light horse brigade reinforcements. officered , administered 1st light horse brigade. double squadron broken in november 1916 personnel being transferred newly formed imperial camel corps battalions.
