the third half depicts history of 7,148 jews ex-yugoslavian district vardar banovina deported gas chambers of treblinka bulgarian administrative , military authorities, cooperating nazi regime. in 1941, young eastern orthodox man, kosta, , wealthy young jewish woman, rebecca, fall in love, despite father s effort keep them apart. war raging around borders, macedonians remain cocooned in world of patriotic pleasures, concerned getting beleaguered macedonia football club on winning streak. manager hires legendary german-jewish coach rudolph spitz turn them champions. when nazi occupation begins , start deporting jews, kosta , teammates realize carefree days of youth over. nazis try sabotage outcome of championship game, , spitz s life threatened, kosta , teammates rise challenge protect coach, of macedonia cheering them on.
