obertan born in pantin, france , began career playing local club paris-pantin before moving higher level joining paris fc in 2002. after spending year there, did youths @ paris fc , joined paris-saint germain. following year of training, moved famed clairefontaine academy in order further development. here first spotted bordeaux scouts , after 1 year @ clairefontaine, moved bordeaux begin training them.

on 6 july 2009, french newspaper l equipe announced bordeaux president jean-louis triaud had reached agreement english club manchester united transfer of obertan triaud stating agreement had been reached several weeks ago , player had agreed contract terms. following day, obertan passed medical in manchester and, on 8 july, signed contract officially making him manchester united player. transfer fee undisclosed, believed in region of £3 million, obertan joining club on four-year deal.
