biography
early years

jerome listecki born in chicago , raised on southeast side. father (d. 1986) owned tavern before working bus driver chicago transit authority. jerome received education @ parochial school of st. michael archangel church before attending quigley preparatory seminary south, graduated in 1967. earned bachelor of arts degree saint joseph college seminary in 1971, , completed theological studies @ st. mary of lake seminary (in mundelein, illinois). during summers seminarian, worked in blast furnace centering plant in steel mills near chicago.


ordination , ministry

listecki ordained priesthood cardinal john cody on may 14, 1975.


after studies in canon law , moral theology in rome, listecki earned licentiate , doctorate in canon law pontifical university of st. thomas aquinas (angelicum) in 1981 dissertation entitled indissolubility , united methodist church. earned juris doctor degree depaul university, making him holder of degrees utriusque juris doctor of canon , civil law. during service archdiocese of chicago, taught @ both quigley preparatory seminary north (later archbishop quigley preparatory seminary) , st. mary of lake seminary, served in number of chicago parishes , pastor of st. ignatius church, worked within archdiocesan chancery appellate judge matrimonial tribunal , separately in-house legal counsel archdiocese of chicago 1985–87, , served chaplain catholic physicians guild of chicago.


his media experience included co-hosting chicago radio station wind program catholic conversation 1978–79, regular participation celebrant wgn tv mass shut-ins , service producer several other television programs.


auxiliary bishop of chicago

on november 7, 2000, listecki appointed auxiliary bishop archdiocese of chicago pope john paul ii; consecrated on january 8, 2001.

















bishop of la crosse, wisconsin

on december 29, 2004, listecki appointed bishop of diocese of la crosse, succeeding bishop raymond leo burke, became archbishop of archdiocese of st. louis, missouri in st. louis, missouri. on march 1, 2005, installed bishop of diocese of la crosse.


at la crosse initiated $50 million fundraising campaign, planning process restructure ministry , parishes in diocese, , instrumental in development of shrine of our lady of guadalupe, project initiated predecessor, bishop burke.


archbishop of milwaukee, wisconsin

bishop listecki named archbishop of milwaukee pope benedict xvi on november 14, 2009. installed on january 4, 2010 apostolic nuncio united states of america, archbishop pietro sambi. archbishop of milwaukee, metropolitan see of ecclesiastical province of milwaukee (the entire state of wisconsin), received pallium on june 29, 2010 pope benedict xvi.


listecki served army reserve chaplain in united states army reserve 20 years, retiring lieutenant colonel.
