Music Tiffin Girls' School

each academic year, in addition academic music lessons, school puts on around twelve concerts both @ school , in other locations around kingston. these include 6 major orchestral , choral concerts, 1 in november, 2 in december, 2 in march , 1 in july. in addition there termly informal concerts , held in music rooms, @ girl may sign perform, gcse , level recitals. first event of school year year 7 concert, held in october.

over third of pupils (350 approx.) involved in sixteen differently weekly instrumental ensembles , choirs. there 3 choirs pupils join (all auditioned): tiffin girls junior choir (70 pupils years 7-9), tiffin girls choir (62 girls years 10-13) , capella choir (20 girls). since start of 2015, choirs have performed bbc symphony orchestra @ bbc proms, broadcast on radio 3, sung joint evensong choir of clare college cambridge , won categories @ woking music festival in addition overall prize best choral performance.

there number of instrumental ensembles including symphony orchestra (50 girls), sinfonia (20 girls), wind band (45 girls), brass ensemble (10 girls), string orchestra (35 girls), tiffin jazz (12 girls) , indian orchestra (20 girls). thames youth orchestra, thames youth choir thames youth sinfonia , thames youth jazz orchestra joint ventures run between tiffin schools , open local pupils, not @ either tiffin school, join. students can audition thames youth orchestra joint venture involving performers both tiffin schools.

the choirs , instrumental ensembles regularly go away on trips, tours , take part in festivals , competitions.

there annual battle of bands competition year 9 pupils. girls compete within split groups place in finals held @ lunchtime.

a house singing event held each year, cross year interhouse event house points awarded in first, second , third place. although house singing has been relatively low key in previous years, there plans make more important in upcoming years introduction of 3 different categories: senior soloists, unison songs years 7-9 , part songs in years 10 - 13.
