the notable 4-6-2 class in new zealand class, built between 1915 , 1927 addington, price , north british locomotive company in scotland. these reputed first locomotives generate 1 horsepower every 100 pounds (45 kilograms) of weight , became numerous class of steam locomotives in new zealand, total of 143 built, , further 12 rebuilt wab class hudson tank engines. when superseded new locomotives on principal express , heaviest freight trains during 1930s, utilised on secondary duties. class locomotives remained in service until 1969, 2 years before end of steam locomotive operations in new zealand. result, 7 of them have been preserved.


one further 4-6-2 type g class. these 6 three-cylinder pacific locomotives rebuilt 3 unsuccessful g class 4-6-2+2-6-4 garratt locomotives nzr’s hillside workshops in 1937. equipped class boilers, new roller bearing trailing trucks, new cabs , vanderbilt type tenders of similar design of class. garratts created from, rebuilds not considered successful.


in 1960 ted blomfield, locomotive fitter @ rotorua, new zealand, built super q pacific 1 foot gauge toot , whistle railway. engine operated @ toot , whistle s kuirau park railway 6 years before officialdom demanded locomotive retired. replaced black 5 replica. super q exists 5 inch-gauge engine.
