coeur d alene accessed interstate 90 @ exits 11 through 15. greater coeur d alene area entirely dependent upon private automobiles transportation. combined city s rapid growth since 1990, relative congestion occurs on significant portion of area highways, notably u.s. 95 between northwest blvd. north hayden, , on several under-developed arterial streets such atlas, ramsey, , government way. before construction of i-90, city served u.s. route 10, ran through downtown. route northwest boulevard , sherman avenue. former 10, between i-90 exits 11 , 15, designated interstate 90 business.

free public bus service available area residents, provided citylink. citylink buses operate in urbanized area of kootenai county, leaving riverstone transfer station every sixty minutes, 7 days week, including holidays. buses wheelchair accessible , can transport 2 bicycles.


the bus system comprises 4 separate routes:



urban route b – serves post falls, hayden , west coeur d alene.
urban route c – serves downtown coeur d alene, fernan , hayden.
rural route – serves towns of worley, plummer, tensed , desmet.
link route – connects 2 transfer stations @ riverstone , worley.

as of april 2012, major changes made current routes, including elimination of urban route , went out stateline, 125 new stops added system, urban route b , urban route c became two-way service instead of loop service, , routes leaving riverstone more frequently, every eighty-five minutes down sixty. changes made due budget cuts.

the closest major airport serving coeur d alene , north idaho spokane international airport, served 5 airlines , 40 miles (64 km) west in spokane, washington. coeur d alene airport – pappy boyington field (kcoe) general aviation airport in hayden, north of city near u.s. 95.


the local coeur d alene airport public-use, general aviation airport. in 1941, coeur d’alene chamber of commerce promoted purchase of 720 acres (290 ha) of land on rathdrum prairie coeur d’alene airport. facility built in 1942 army engineers @ cost of on $400,000. designated alternate weeks field (now, kootenai county fairgrounds) when war training program in operation world war ii.
