outer censorship

the outer censorship consisted of pre-censorship of publishing companies. censor analyzed manuscript in aspect of socialist ideology , recommended changes author if necessary. afterwards whole work again analyzed ideology hostile current governmental ideology committee of publishing company.

governmental censorship

this kind of censorship done , supervised 2 governmental organizations supervised censorship of literature. first 1 has been head office publishing companies , bookselling trade (hauptverwaltung verlage und buchhandel, hv), , second 1 bureau copyright (büro für urheberrechte).

the hv decided degree of censorship , way of publishing , marketing work. bureau copyright appraised work, decided if book or publication allowed published in foreign countries gdr, or in gdr.

censorship of party sed

this censorship existed within layers of gdr. every business , organisation affected it. party members in institutions , held key positions (e.g. in authors collective). censorship done directly politbüro, if did not fit ideology of day.
