education in essex substantially provided 3 authorities: essex county council , 2 unitary authorities, southend-on-sea , thurrock. in there 90 state secondary schools provided these authorities, majority of comprehensive, although 1 in uttlesford, 2 in chelmsford, 2 in colchester , 4 in southend-on-sea selective grammar schools. there various independent schools particularly, mentioned above, in rural parts , west of county.


the university of essex, established in 1963, located outside colchester, 2 further campuses in loughton , southend-on-sea.
