for inaugural opening of national memorial site scaled-up version of tragende (woman burden) created (under supervision of fritz cremer) , exhibited. central symbolic figure, known pietà of ravensbrück , stands atop stele on peninsula in lake schwedtsee. zwei stehende (two women standing) monument has origins in lammert s models. other statues, created ravensbrück, have been on display @ old jewish cemetery in berlin mitte since 1985, in commemoration of jewish victims of fascism.

since 1984, former ss headquarters have housed museum des antifaschistischen widerstandskampfes (museum of anti-fascist resistance). after withdrawal germany of soviet army, 1993 had been using parts of former camp military purposes, became possible incorporate more areas of camp memorial site.


today, former accommodation blocks female guards youth hostel , youth meeting centre. in course of reorganisation, took place in 1990s, museum des antifaschistischen widerstandskampfes replaced 2 new permanent exhibitions: women of ravensbrück , displays biographies of 27 former prisoners, , ravensbrück. topography , history of women s concentration camp , provides information origins of camp, describes daily life in camp, , explains principle of vernichtung durch arbeit (extermination through work). since 2004 there has been exhibition female guards @ ravensbrück women s concentration camp, housed in of former accommodation blocks. additionally, temporary exhibitions of special interest held regularly @ memorial.


on 16 , 17 april 2005, ceremony held commemorate 60th anniversary of camp s liberation. among invited approximately 600 survivors on world, eastern europe. @ same time new, permanent outdoor exhibition opened, on theme of train transports ravensbrück. central exhibit refurbished goods wagon. exhibition s information boards describe origins of transports , how developed on time, , explain different types of trains, arrived, , part played local residents. exhibition far @ german memorial dedicated solely subject of transports camp.
