student involvement
the quarry lane school has lot of student involvement in upper school (grades 6-12). both middle school , high school have own student council, , leadership required class upper school.
clubs , activities
current upper school clubs include band, jazz, orchestra, chess, drama, photography, journalism, economics, environmental, red cross club, arts/literary journal, improv club, , leadership. clubs student driven , formed based on interest throughout year.
lower school students engage in number of challenging enrichment courses outside core subjects. courses include engineering, visual/ fine art, spanish, , music (including violin , windband). students can participate in variety of after-school programs, including private music lessons, art workshops, , chess taught professionals @ berkeley chess school, , language courses in hindi , mandarin.
robotics
quarry lane robotics offered after school elementary through high school students. elementary , middle school students discover robotics , develop engineering skills using legos nxt robotics system. plan compete in future first lego league (fll) competition. middle school , high school students enhance , challenge robotics invention skills using more challenging vex robotics kit. in first year, 2007, quarry lane robotics team 212 competed in first tech challenge in northern california region. team 212 placed 4th in qualifiers record of 4-1-0, , finished norcal championship semi-finalists. in addition, quarry lane participates in vex iq , edr middle , high schools. vex edr team finished in 49th place @ world championships in 2016. in 2017, team won design award @ northern california state championships second year in row, , 2017 third straight year qualified vex world championships.
chess
quarry lane s chess program initiated 2 high school students who, along team, earned state-level recognition bay area chess league. after placing highly @ california state tournament, team looks forward season of success , sportsmanship.
competitive sports
as of 2012-2013 school year, following athletics teams available high school: boys varsity soccer, girls tennis, co-ed cross country, girls volleyball, boys junior varsity basketball, girls junior varsity basketball, varsity basketball, varsity co-ed badminton, boys tennis, co-ed swimming, co-ed track , girls junior varsity soccer.

leadership
leadership optional high school students. leadership class headed liz paz-rumore, college counselor, upper school. leadership, high school, focused on improving 1 s self , college admissions. students draft version of college application essay in class, learn vocabulary sat or act test, , learn colleges in application. in grades 6-8, leadership class mandatory , goal develop critical thinking, teach organizational skills, , instill social , moral values. leadership class focuses on practicing leadership skills requiring every student plan , run event during year, such school sponsored social event or community service project.
leadership students work closely student council plan , organize variety of community outreach fundraisers. every year during holiday season, students in high school leadership organize collection donated mchenry house fundraiser. goal of project fulfill wish lists of families in need. in addition annual fundraiser, high school , middle school leadership classes organize, plan , execute variety of charitable causes throughout year, including canned food drives, shoe drives, prescription eyewear drives, and, recently, halloween costume drive make holiday special children in community without access costumes.
