tattersalls club formed in november 1883, following model of sporting clubs established in britain. particularly concerned horse racing, , club held first race meeting in 1884. tattersalls club met in australian hotel @ corner of queen , albert streets 1883 until 1888 , subsequently leased various premises clubrooms. tattersalls made several inner city property investments, sale of financed acquisition of site in edward street new clubrooms, 6 64 feet (1.8 19.5 m) 6 feet 64 feet right of way queen street.

the new clubrooms designed hall , prentice, architects brisbane s new city hall, , contractors green , sons. erected @ cost of £41,000, additional £5,000 spent on fittings , furnishings, tattersalls club opened on 28 july 1926 , provided billiard, card, reading , dining rooms members. main hall modelled on repository @ tattersalls auction room in london. sculptor daphne mayo executed decorative plaster frieze entitled horse in sport along wall of queen street entrance passageway.
in 1936 adjoining property in queen street bought £18,500 enable clubrooms extended. constructed j hutchinson , son, designs of t r hall , l b phillips, these extensions contained new art deco dining room , opened on 27 june 1939. members dining room features 10.7m high ceiling, queensland maple , silky oak, mezzanine balcony, , murals created local artists w bustard, c h lancaster, p stanhope hobday , melville haysom depict australian landscape. art deco features of stunning room includes several decorative windows, grooved plasterwork in ceiling , striking marble columns. in 1949 further queen street property acquired , again club expanded provision of library , new offices.
in 1990 tattersalls refurbished altered floor levels @ cost of $5,000,000. new queen street entrance constructed, , incorporated vaulted ceiling , daphne mayo friezes original entry.
